Author Interview- Tod Zummack

1. Can you tell us a little about your book?

It is a novella that was a long time coming. It's a thriller about a detective that stumbles into a case that unearths a serial killer using the lyrics from the hymn Amazing Grace as their playbook for murder. It's a captivating and pulse-pounding, catch-me-if-you-can chase that culminates in the detective fighting to protect his morals, values, and family in a final showdown with the mysterious killer.

2. Is there a specific event that inspired this story or was this an out of the blue idea?

This was not inspired by any event. It was a thought I had, an idea that I expanded upon until I thought that it would make for an enjoyable book, one that people would find enthralling.

3. What got you writing in the first place?

I have enjoyed the idea of writing for a living since high school and have dabbled with it here and there since, until I finally sat down and focused on putting pen to paper and creating a story that I loved.

4. What was your impression of your first draft when you read it?

My impression of my first draft was that of a good story that didn't take a huge time commitment from the reader to enjoy.

5. Which part of your story connects the most with you? Why?

I think Brock's desire to keep his family and his city safe. I want to keep my kids as safe as possible while they are growing up.

6. What makes your book the one to read?

It is a concise, quick paced read with an interesting story and strong characters that pull you into each new chapter and keep you wondering what will happen next.

7. What was the best advice you got while writing?

Just keep writing. Write where the story takes you and just keep writing it. You can fix any mistakes or continuity issues once your story's journey is finished.

8. Who’s your all-time favourite author? Which book of his/hers made you fall in love with them?

Louis L'Amour. To Tame A Land, How The West Was Won.

9. What is your evergreen tip to the writers out there?

Write whatever you want. If it's interesting to you, it will be interesting to someone else.

10. What was your hardest scene to write?

I had a hard time writing the scene of Monica Highland's death.

11. Do you have another plot brewing?

I do. I am 50,000 words into my next novel currently.
